Evaluation of screening for celiac disease in children with juvenile idiopathic arthritis
Acta Pediatrica Oct 05, 2018
Öman A, et al. - To analyze the commonness of celiac disease (CD) in children with JIA, researchers screened a population-based cohort of children with juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) using autoantibodies against tissue transglutaminase (anti-TG2). For this investigation, they prospectively evaluated all children with disease onset between 2007 and 2014 diagnosed with JIA in three Swedish counties. The study findings suggested that asymptomatic CD in children with JIA might be found by screening. In the general population of Swedish children, they found a point prevalence of CD close to previously described prevalence. Therefore, the obtained data did not support general screening for CD in children with JIA.
