Evaluation of oxidative stress and antioxidant status: Correlation with the severity of sepsis
Scandinavian Journal of Immunology Mar 06, 2018
Kumar S, et al. - Researchers herein assessed the levels of oxidative and anti-oxidative activity in sepsis patients and their correlation with the severity of the sepsis. They found augmented levels of oxidants and increased cytokines in sepsis patients. They also observed inverse relation between antioxidant enzymes (superoxide dismutase and catalase) and organ failure assessment (SOFA), physiological score (APACHE II), organ toxicity specific markers in these patients. Overall, it was suggested that imbalance between oxidant and antioxidant play key role in the severity of sepsis.
