Evaluation of olfaction and taste function in type 2 diabetic patients with and without peripheral neuropathy
Diabetes/Metabolism Research and Reviews Dec 21, 2017
Yazla S, et al. - The researchers used validated and dependable techniques to determine whether type 2 diabetic patients, with and without diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN), showed major olfactory and gustatory dysfunction. An association was found between type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) with olfactory and gustatory dysfunction. The fact that there was no difference between the diabetic patients with and without DPN elicited the idea of central neuropathy. This novel finding could facilitate the addition of olfactory and gustatory tests to the methodological spectrum of afferent pathway investigations.
