Evaluation of novel computerized tomography scoring systems in human traumatic brain injury: An observational, multicenter study
PLoS Medicine Sep 12, 2017
Thelin EP, et al. - This observational, multicenter study evaluated the Stockholm and Helsinki computerized tomography (CT) scores for predicting functional outcome, in comparison with the Rotterdam CT score and Marshall CT classification. Furthermore, the authors assessed which individual components of the CT scores best predicted the outcome and what additional prognostic value the CT scoring systems contributed to a clinical prognostic model. Compared to earlier classification systems, the Stockholm and Helsinki CT scores presented more information on the damage sustained and provided a more accurate outcome prediction. The strong independent predictive value of traumatic subarachnoid hemorrhage (tSAH) could reflect an underrated component of traumatic brain injury (TBI) pathophysiology. As per the outcomes, a change to these newer CT scoring systems could be warranted.
