Dulger S, et al. - Researchers, using the saccharine clearance test, assessed and compared nasal muco-ciliary clearance time (NMCT) in smokers and non-smokers. Smokers had significantly depressed mucociliary activity; no association of the said depression with the number of cigarettes smoked, duration of smoking or nicotine dependence was found.
