Evaluation of MR-proANP and copeptin for sepsis diagnosis after burn injury
Journal of Critical Care May 04, 2019
Gille J, et al. - In this prospective observational study including 42 consecutive patients, researchers determined the value of assessing Mid-regional pro-atrial natriuretic peptide (MR-proANP) and copeptin (validated biomarkers of sepsis) for sepsis diagnosis in a burn injury setting. Using immunoluminometric sandwich assay for MR-proANP, copeptin and procalcitonin (PCT), they quantitatively analyzed daily blood specimens obtained over the initial 20 days of treatment. According to findings, burn injury itself could be related to copeptin and to a lesser degree MR-proANP level rises. Although the diagnosis of sepsis may be made using subsequent increases in MR-proANP, it offered no benefits over PCT. For diagnosing sepsis post-burn injury, the role of copeptin remained inappropriate.
