Evaluation of miRNAs expression in medullary thyroid carcinoma tissue samples: miR-34a and miR-144 as promising overexpressed markers in MTC
Human Pathology Jun 13, 2018
Shabani N, et al. - For this investigation, miR-144 and miR-34, as well as their target genes including mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR) and AXL receptor tyrosine kinase (AXL), were selected to assess microRNAs (miRNAs) expression in medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC) tissue samples. Researchers used 30 MTC samples and 30 adjacent normal thyroid tissues in this investigation, including 28 formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded (FFPE) and two fresh-frozen MTC samples. The findings from the present study suggested that high expression of miR-144 and miR-34a could be considered as biomarkers of MTC. No statistically significant association between the expression of these miRNAs and target genes in MTC clinical samples was found.
