Evaluation of low-dose, low-frequency oral psoralen–UV-A treatment with or without maintenance on early-stage mycosis fungoides: A randomized clinical trial
JAMA May 13, 2019
Vieyra-Garcia P, et al. - Researchers assessed the efficacy of low-dose, low-frequency psoralen-UV-A (PUVA) and if maintenance treatment in patients with mycosis fungoides prolongs disease-free remission in this randomized clinical trial of 27 patients with mycosis fungoides. According to this proof-of-concept study, potential biomarkers in mycosis fungoides for therapeutic response to PUVA have been identified. In addition, it demonstrated that low-dose, low-frequency PUVA seems to be highly efficacious, with 70% of patients achieving complete response after 12 to 24 weeks of treatment. Maintenance treatment can also lengthen disease-free remission. During the PUVA induction or maintenance phase, no severe adverse effects were observed.
