Evaluation of long-term risk of epilepsy, psychiatric disorders, and mortality among children with recurrent febrile seizures: A national cohort study in Denmark
JAMA Oct 17, 2019
Dreier JW, et al. - Via a large, nationwide, population-based cohort study of 2,103,232 children between the ages of 3 months and 5 years born in Denmark, researchers estimated the risk of recurrent febrile seizures and whether there was a relationship between recurrent febrile seizures and epilepsy, psychiatric disorders, and death over long-term follow-up. Children diagnosed with epilepsy were recognized in the Danish National Patient Register while children diagnosed with psychiatric disorders were distinguished in the Psychiatric Central Research Register. A history of recurrent febrile seizures seemed to be correlated with a risk of epilepsy and psychiatric disorders, however, extended mortality was discovered only in children who later acquired epilepsy.
