Evaluation of histologic changes in the livers of patients with early and late hepatic artery thrombosis
Human Pathology Jun 13, 2019
Lee M, et al. - Via a study on 94 liver specimens from patients with a clinical or pathological diagnosis of hepatic artery thrombosis (HAT), the researchers sought to investigate additional histologic features suggesting HAT in post-orthotopic liver transplantation liver specimens. Lobular necrosis, portal inflammation, ductular reaction, lobular cholestasis, and bile-tinged macrophages were a few common histologic findings in HAT were included. After a prolonged period of ischemia in late HAT, biliary injury, with subsequent bile duct necrosis, bile in veins, and remodeling could occur. Although, bile in veins could be seen in bile infarcts from other causes but it was concluded as an unusual finding that could occur in HAT.
