Evaluation of hidradenitis suppurativa disease course during pregnancy and postpartum
JAMA May 02, 2020
Lyons AB, Peacock A, McKenzie SA, et al. - Researchers sought to determine how the disease course of hidradenitis suppurativa is affected during pregnancy and the postpartum period. Inclusion of 127 women with HS accounting for 202 pregnancies was done in this retrospective cohort study which was conducted in the Henry Ford Health System, Detroit, Michigan. Per observations, a high rate of hidradenitis suppurativa exacerbation occurred during pregnancy and postpartum among patients. In most of these cases, dermatologists were not involved in the management, and hidradenitis suppurativa–directed medical or procedural treatment were not provided during pregnancy. For the delivery of optimal care for patients with hidradenitis suppurativa during pregnancy and the postpartum period, they suggest close multidisciplinary collaboration between dermatologists and their obstetrics-gynecology colleagues as possibly valuable.
