Evaluation of gall bladder stones using susceptibility weighted imaging
Journal of Computer Assisted Tomography Sep 26, 2019
Gupta RK, Neelavalli J, Gupta M, et al. - Imaging data from 47 patients who underwent clinically indicated cholecystectomy was analyzed to assess the visualization of gallbladder stones on susceptibility-weighted imaging (SWI). Gallstones were surgically verified in 45 of 47 cases. Gallstones were visualized in the SWI in 43 cases. In one case, however routine imaging failed, stones were visualized on SWI. In 29 diamagnetic, seven paramagnetic and nine cases mixed-phase were observed. In an ex vivo study, magnetic susceptibility of stones was discovered ranging between −0.102 and −0.916 ppm for diamagnetic and 0.203 and 486 ppm for paramagnetic stones. Thus, gallbladder stones could be visualized with SWI and may be attached to the routine MRI protocol for its assessment.
