Evaluation of cardiac function in women with a history of preeclampsia: A systematic review and meta-analysis
Journal of the American Heart Association Nov 19, 2019
Reddy M, Wright L, Rolnik DL, et al. - Given an increased risk of cardiovascular morbidity and mortality in women with a history of preeclampsia, researchers performed this review to investigate if clinical or subclinical cardiac changes may be seen in women with a history of preeclampsia when assessed with an echocardiogram. They selected studies assessing cardiac function in women with a history of preeclampsia vs normotensive pregnancies, from MEDLINE, EMBASE, and CINAHL databases. Overall 27 studies were analyzed. A trend toward altered cardiac structure and function was evident in women with a history of preeclampsia vs those with a normotensive pregnancy. A higher left ventricular mass index and relative wall thickness were found in women with a history of preeclampsia. These women had a lower E/A and a higher E/e′ ratio than the nonpreeclampsia population.
