Evaluation of association factors for labor episodic pain during epidural analgesia
Journal of Pain Research Feb 24, 2019
Chan JJI, et al. - Using univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses, researchers investigated the associated risk factors for labor episodic pain experienced by parturients while receiving epidural analgesia. They reviewed Electronic and hardcopy records of labor deliveries between January 2012 and December 2015 at KK Women’s and Children’s Hospital, Singapore and identified labor episodic pain prevalence of 14.2% (2,951 of 20,798 parturients). Risk factors associated with labor episodic pain were: need for epidural resiting, higher pain scores intrapartum, higher Bromage scores, the need for instrumental delivery, the need for cesarean delivery, the presence of venous puncture, the presence of dural puncture, the presence of high block, the need for a urinary catheter, larger volumes of local anesthetics used and higher body mass index, and decreased maternal satisfaction. Information regarding these factors may help to develop interventions to prevent labor episodic pain.
