Evaluation of a case series of patients with generalized pustular psoriasis in the United States
JAMA Dermatology Dec 12, 2021
Noe MH, Wan MT, Mostaghimi A, et al. - Researchers aimed to describe the patient characteristics and the disease course among patients with generalized pustular psoriasis (GPP) across the United States.
A retrospective case series of 95 adults with GPP.
Of patients, 70.5% were women with a mean age of 50.3 years.
On initial presentation, more than one-third of patients were hospitalized, and two-third received treatment with systemic therapies; over time, hospitalizations were required in 35.8% of patients for disease flares.
Risk of an emergency department or hospital encounter appeared lower for women.
Overall GPP is a rare, chronic disease with no standard therapy and is linked with continued healthcare utilization over time.
