Evaluation for effects of severe acidosis on hemostasis in trauma patients using thromboelastography analyzer
The American Journal of Emergency Medicine Dec 22, 2017
Lv X, et al. - Researchers here examined the effects of metabolic acidosis on hemostasis function in trauma patients using thromboelastography analyzer. They found a positive correlation of the degree of metabolic acidosis with the severity of hemostasis dysfunction in trauma patients. In trauma patients, acidosis induced more serious impairment to hemostasis compared to healthy volunteers. In addition, acidosis-induced Clot time elongation seemed to have a positive relationship to a higher death rate and increased transfusion requirement. Thereby suggesting a predictive role of thromboelastography (TEG) variables for prognosis of traumatized patients.
