Evaluating the role of alcohol consumption in breast and ovarian cancer susceptibility using population‐based cohort studies and two‐sample Mendelian randomization analyses

International Journal of Cancer Oct 16, 2020

Ong JS, Derks EM, Eriksson M, et al. - This study was intended to assess the role of alcohol consumption in breast and ovarian cancer susceptibility using data from population-based cohort studies. Both observational Cox regression and two‐sample Mendelian randomization analyses were conducted using data from various European cohort studies (observational) and publicly available cancer consortia. The findings serve additional evidence that alcohol intake is unlikely to have anything other than a very small impact on the risk of epithelial ovarian cancer. In our observational analyses, the multivariable‐adjusted hazard ratios for a one standard drink/day increase was 1.06 for breast cancer and 1.00 for EOC, both of which were consistent with previous World Cancer Research Fund findings.
