Evaluating the diagnostic and prognostic value of lone anti-Sm for autoimmune diseases using Euroimmun line immunoassays
Clinical Rheumatology Oct 26, 2018
Meng Y, et al. - Authors gauged the value of lone anti-Smith antibody (anti-Sm) for autoimmune diseases using Euroimmun line immunoassay (LIA) in a Chinese population. One thousand two hundred eight of 39,766 patients who were analyzed for anti-Sm had positive anti-Sm and were divided into true group (having both positive Sm and nRNP/Sm bands) and lone group (only having Sm band without nRNP/Sm band). In non-autoimmune diseases (NAIDs) patients, less incidence of kidney injury was indicated by lone anti-Sm vs true anti-Sm. In autoimmune diseases (AIDs), especially systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), a great diagnostic value was seen in lone anti-Sm was noted. Findings suggested a relationship of lone anti-Sm with mild kidney impairment. In order to identify changes in anti-Sm, experts suggested submitting positive anti-Sm patients with no clinical findings or SLE diagnosis to new testing, because turning of lone anti-Sm to true anti-Sm designates evolving kidney injury.
