Evaluating the association between maternal vitamin D deficiency and preeclampsia among Indian gravidas
European Journal of Obstetrics & Gynecology and Reproductive Biology Apr 21, 2021
Das B, et al. - Researchers examined whether vitamin D deficiency is statistically significantly linked with preeclampsia in Indian gravidas. Per their knowledge, there is no study of this context with such a large sample size in the Indian population till now. They conducted a case-control study in the year 2015-2019 enrolling 1,000 pregnant women with preeclampsia admitted either in labor or for induction of labor in the study group and 1000 pregnant women without preeclampsia either in labor or admitted for induction of labor at term gestation in the control group. Women with preeclampsia were noted to have significantly low levels of vitamin D relative to normotensive women, suggesting a significant correlation between vitamin D deficiency and preeclampsia.
