Evaluating the association between enlarged perivascular spaces and disease worsening in multiple sclerosis
Journal of Neuroimaging Apr 13, 2018
Cavallari M, et al. - Because of their association with brain atrophy and relapses in remitting multiple sclerosis (MS), the tie between enlarged perivascular spaces (EPVSs) and clinical and MRI features of disease worsening was assessed by experts in a cohort of relapsing-remitting MS patients, with a follow-up of up to 10 years. Ultimately, there was no significant difference between converters and non-converters with regard to EPVS scores. There was also no association with accrual of lesions or brain atrophy and EPVS scores. Consequently, researchers recommend not using EPVS as an early indicator of risk for disease worsening in relapsing-remitting MS patients in a clinical setting.
