Evaluating the “patella friendly” concept in total knee arthropalasty a minimum fifteen year follow up outcome study comparing constant radius, multi- radius CR and non anatomical CR implants
Journal of Arthroplasty Mar 10, 2021
Karachalios T, Komnos G, Hantes M, et al. - Researchers performed a minimum fifteen-year follow-up outcome study to compare constant radius, muti radius CR, and non-anatomical CR implants to investigate the patella-friendly concept in total knee arthroplasty. Researchers retrospectively assessed prospectively obtained data from three groups consisting of 100 patients (100 knees in each). Researchers matched individuals of all groups for age, gender, side, BMI, and length of follow-up. They evaluated anterior knee pain, secondary patella resurfacing, implant failure, and radiological outcome in patients of all groups. This study’s findings demonstrate that the anatomical, patella-friendly, constant radius femoral components out-perform others in reducing anterior knee pain and patella complications in total knee arthroplasty in which the patellae are left non-resurfaced.
