Evaluating previous antibiotic use as a risk factor for acute gastroenteritis among children in Davidson County, Tennessee, 2014–2015
Journal of the Pediatric Infectious Diseases Society May 24, 2018
Kolsin JM, et al. - Researchers sought to evaluate the relationship between previous antibiotic use and acute gastroenteritis (AGE) in the pediatric population via analyzing inpatient and outpatient children with AGE and healthy controls from Vanderbilt University Medical Center between December 1, 2014, and November 30, 2015. Findings revealed that among children, previous antibiotic use was associated with increased odds of AGE, irrespective of etiology. This association was observed to be stronger with more recent antibiotic use. An association of previous antibiotic use with more severe AGE was also evident.
