Evaluating efficacy of intravenous carbetocin in reducing blood loss during abdominal myomectomy: A randomized controlled trial
Fertility and Sterility Jan 21, 2021
Taher A, Farouk D, Kotb MMM, et al. - Via performing a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial, researchers sought to determine the efficacy of carbetocin vs placebo in lowering intraoperative blood loss and the necessity for blood transfusion during abdominal myomectomy. A total of 138 women with symptomatic leiomyoma who were candidates for abdominal myomectomy were randomized to carbetocin and placebo groups. Outcomes suggest a single preoperative intravenous dose of 100 μg carbetocin to be a simple, practical, and effective approach for reducing intraoperative blood loss and the necessity for blood transfusion during abdominal myomectomy, with tolerable, few, nonsignificant side-effects.
