Eustachian tube dysfunction symptoms in patients treated in a tertiary rhinology clinic
International Forum of Allergy & Rhinology Nov 22, 2017
Marino MJ, et al. - Researchers designed this study in order to assess the extent of Eustachian tube dysfunction (ETD) symptoms, with the aid of validated metrics, in patients presenting to a tertiary rhinology clinic. Symptoms of ETD were commonly noted in patients treated in a rhinology clinic, with 43.3% of patients reporting symptom scores consistent with a formal diagnosis of ETD. It was noted that increased 22-item Sino-Nasal Outcome Tests (SNOT-22) scores were associated with increased Eustachian Tube Dysfunction Questionnaires (ETDQ-7) scores, even when only the SNOT-22 rhinologic subdomain was taken into account. Those presenting for the treatment of rhinologic symptoms exhibited a greater tendency for displaying an increased prevalence of otologic symptoms and ETD.
