Etiologies, trends, and predictors of readmission in ST-elevation myocardial infarction patients undergoing multivessel percutaneous coronary intervention
Catheterization and Cardiovascular Interventions Jun 11, 2019
Tripathi B, et al. - Using Nationwide Readmissions Data (2010 -2014), researchers gained insights into trends, etiologies, and factors related to 30-day readmission following multivessel percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) in ST-elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) patients. Readmission within 30 days from discharge was sought by approximately one in 10 patients with index hospitalization for multivessel PCI in STEMI. Readmissions were commonly due to cardiac causes, most frequently because of heart failure and ischemic heart disease. Predictors of subsequent readmission within 30 days were: advancing age, female sex, comorbid conditions like chronic kidney disease, congestive heart failure, anemia, and utilization of a mechanical circulatory support device during the index procedure.
