Ethnic differences in eating disorder prevalence, risk factors, and predictive effects of risk factors among young women
Eating Behaviours Feb 10, 2019
Cheng ZH, et al. - In a large sample of young women (N = 1177) followed longitudinally over three years, researchers evaluated whether there are ethnic differences in eating disorder prevalence, risk factors, and the predictive relations of the risk factors to future eating disorder onset. Participants were made to complete surveys and interviews at baseline and at 1-, 6-, 12-, 24-, and 36-month follow-up. Outcomes suggest no ethnic differences in the prevalence of eating disorders (EDs). Ethnic differences were noted for 2 of 13 ED risk factors: thin-ideal internalization and body mass index. No ethnic differences were evident in the relation of risk factors for future ED onset. Compared to ethnic differences, they noted more shared ED risk factors and rates.
