Estimating the impact of self-management education, influenza vaccines, nebulizers, and spacers on health utilization and expenditures for Medicaid-enrolled children with asthma
Journal of Asthma Oct 15, 2020
Yildirim M, Griffin P, Keskinocak P, et al. - In the present study, the researchers sought to measure the impact of a set of interventions including asthma self-management education, influenza vaccination, spacers, and nebulizers on healthcare utilization and expenditures for Medicaid-enrolled children with asthma in New York and Michigan. Patient data were collected from Medicaid Analytic eXtract files and patients with persistent asthma were analyzed in 2010 and 2011. Findings suggested that promoting asthma self-management education, influenza vaccinations, nebulizers, and spacers will minimise the frequency of healthcare use and asthma-related expenditures while improving adherence to medications. The reductions differed by state and intervention.
