Esophagectomy vs endoscopic resection for patients with early-stage esophageal adenocarcinoma: A National Cancer Database propensity-matched study
The Journal of Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery Jan 24, 2018
Marino KA, et al. - Researchers performed a comparison of outcomes following esophagectomy or endoscopic resection for stage T1a adenocarcinoma. After endoscopic resection or esophagectomy, survival appeared equivalent in patients with early-stage esophageal adenocarcinoma. However, endoscopic resection was associated with shorter hospital stays, fewer readmissions, and less 90-day mortality. Esophagectomy could result in better overall survival in patients surviving more than 90 days.
