Esophageal high-resolution impedance manometry alterations in asymptomatic patients with systemic sclerosis: Prevalence, associations with disease features, and prognostic value
Clinical Rheumatology Feb 16, 2018
Vettori S, et al. - The researchers evaluated the pre-clinical esophageal involvement in systemic sclerosis (SSc) with high-resolution impedance manometry (HRiM). They also assessed the relationship of HRiM with disease features including lung involvement, and its predictivity of esophageal symptoms with time. Up to 84% of SSc patients asymptomatic for esophageal involvement could present with HRiM abnormalities. In the cases of symptomatic esophageal disease, a baseline-impaired motility served as a risk factor.
