Erythropoietin in patients with traumatic brain injury and extracranial injury-A post hoc analysis of the erythropoietin traumatic brain injury trial

The Journal of Trauma and Acute Care Surgery Sep 04, 2017

Skrifvars MB, et al. – This post hoc analysis was performed to test the hypothesis that erythropoietin (EPO) decreases mortality more in traumatic brain injury (TBI) patients with multiple trauma than in patients with TBI alone. The authors revealed that in TBI patients with a more severe extracranial injury, EPO administration was correlated with a potential differential improvement in 6–month mortality. These findings needed confirmation in future clinical and experimental studies.
