Epstein–Barr virus antibody titers are not associated with gastric cancer risk in East Asia
Digestive Diseases and Sciences Jun 13, 2018
Varga MG, et al. - Given that Epstein–Barr virus (EBV)-positive gastric cancers represent a distinct subtype of gastric cancers and account for nearly 10% of the gastric cancer burden, researchers explored risk detection strategies for this cancer subtype by looking at the sera or plasma from 1,447 gastric cancer cases and 1,797 controls. The results obtained from this nested case-control study suggested that multiplex serology of the EBV antigens in serum are not a suitable biomarker for predicting gastric cancer risk in East Asian populations, since EBV sero-positivity was nearly universal and the lack of association between the antigens and gastric cancer risk.
