Episodic memory following deep brain stimulation of the ventral anterior limb of the internal capsule and electroconvulsive therapy

Bergfeld IO, et al. – The present study sought to compare autobiographical memories following Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) and Electroconvulsive Therapy (ECT). Findings revealed that both ECT and ventral anterior limb of the internal capsule (vALIC) DBS result in a faster autobiographical memory decline compared to healthy controls (HC). The authors suggested that DBS might have a negative effect on autobiographical memories, although less so than ECT.
