Epinephrine for out of hospital cardiac arrest: A systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials
Resuscitation Mar 14, 2019
Maria V, et al. - Researchers examined the influence of epinephrine vs control treatments on survival at admission, return of spontaneous circulation, survival at discharge, and a favorable neurologic outcome in adult patients during out of hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA). They analyzed 15 randomized controlled trials (RCTs) with 20,716 OHCA patients treated with epinephrine vs controls. Outcomes emphasize using standard or high doses of epinephrine in OHCA as they improved survival to hospital discharge and resulted in a beneficial clinical outcome. They identified a clear advantage of using epinephrine over a placebo or no drugs in the considered outcomes.
