Epigenetic silencing of microRNA-335 contributes to nasopharyngeal carcinoma metastasis
American Journal of Otolaryngology Nov 29, 2019
Yang JH, et al. - Researchers determined how metastasis of nasopharyngeal carcinoma is influenced by mircoRNA-335 (miR-335) methylation. In nasopharyngeal carcinoma tissues, they analyzed the expression levels of miR-335 and miR-335 methylation by applying RT-PCR and methylation-specific PCR. They found significantly lower levels of miR-335 expression in nasopharyngeal cancer tissues with promoter methylation vs those with promoter unmethylation. In 14 (46.7%) out of 30 nasopharyngeal cancer tissues, higher levels of miR-335 gene promoter methylation were identified. Findings revealed the contribution of gene methylation to the expression of miR-335 in nasopharyngeal carcinoma. Also, miR-335 methylation expression was correlated with the metastasis of nasopharyngeal carcinoma.
