Epidermal lipid composition, barrier integrity and eczematous inflammation are associated with skin microbiome configuration

The Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology Feb 15, 2018

Baurecht H, et al. - This study entailed a comprehensive analysis of microbial configurations in atopic dermatitis (AD) across body sites. Also, the impact of distinct abnormalities of epidermal barrier function was explored herein. Findings demonstrated an influence of the epidermal barrier integrity and function on skin microbiome composition. Across diverse body sites, AD displayed an altered microbial configuration, which however was most pronounced at sites of predilection and atopic dermatitis. Notably, eczematous affection seemed to be a more crucial determinant than body site.
