Epidermal growth factor receptor detection in serum and saliva as a diagnostic and prognostic tool in oral cancer
The Laryngoscope Aug 11, 2017
Zanotti L, et al. – The specialist examined the expression of epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) in serum and saliva of patients, in order to analyze its diagnostic and prognostic value in oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC). Their findings suggested that saliva EGFR could be considered as a potential tumor marker for OSCC with both diagnostic and prognostic values. Whereas, serum EGFR levels were lower in OSCC patients and did not display any prognostic impact. Hence, saliva EGFR levels could be considered as a potential diagnostic and prognostic biomarker for OSCC.
