Epidemiology, risk factors, and characteristics of pediatric stroke: A nationwide population-based study
QJM: An International Journal of Medicine Apr 13, 2018
Chiang KL, et al. - Using the National Health Insurance Research Database (NHIRD), authors intended to demonstrate the period prevalence, incidence, and risk factors of pediatric stroke in Taiwan children, aged 1 month to 18 years. Age, sex, location, and household income levels were gathered as part of this database. A substantially greater risk of stroke was discovered in infants younger than 2 years, boys, and children in lower socioeconomic status. Findings revealed that hemorrhagic stroke presented with a significantly higher mortality rate than ischemic stroke. Underlying diseases were reported in more than half of the children with stroke, and the causes of hemorrhagic stroke appeared to greatly vary from that of ischemic stroke.
