Significant noise exposures with potentially serious long-term hearing health consequences frequently were observed in occupational and recreational settings, and with the use of firearms. A minor proportion of those exposed consistently used hearing protection. Healthcare providers were recommended actively to identify and encourage the use of hearing protection with those patients at risk.
