Mehta K, et al. - Researchers here queried National Inpatient Sample, a large inpatient dataset in the US, from 1998 to 2012 to assess the epidemiology and outcomes of hematopoietic stem cell transplant in HIV (+) patients. HIV (+) patients were not at higher risk of serious in-hospital complications of hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT), however, they could have higher risk of certain opportunistic infections. In HIV (+) patients, allogeneic and autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplantation could be safely performed.
