Epidemiological trends, relative survival, and prognosis risk factors of WHO Grade III gliomas: A population-based study
Cancer Medicine Apr 27, 2019
Fang JH, et al. - In this retrospective study, researchers examined epidemiological features, survival, and risk factors of WHO Grade III gliomas. From the Surveillance, Epidemiology, and End Results database, all data of patients with grade III gliomas were extracted. Using Joinpoint program, the trends of incidence and mortality were modeled. Investigators found that the incidence was stable and the mortality rate dropped significantly with annual percentage change as −1.95% during 2000-2013. Furthermore, the results showed that older age, black race, male, divorced status, non-frontal location, anaplastic astrocytoma histology, smaller tumor size, and no surgical resection were linked to worse survival. The highest prevalent cases were in patients aged 40-59. The radiotherapy effects still need to be studied further. Finally, they integrated these risk factors to build a nomogram for 3-, 5- and 10-year survival predictions.
