Epidemiological trends of maternal hypertensive disorders of pregnancy at the global, regional, and national levels: A population‐based study
BMC Pregnancy and Childbirth May 20, 2021
Wang W, Xie X, Yuan T, et al. - In this study, researchers report the modeled global-, regional- and national-level prevalence as well as incidence rates, death rates and years lived with disability of hypertensive disorders of pregnancy (HDP) as disclosed in the Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study 2019. They also examined the links between epidemiological data and socioeconomic factors, such as the sociodemographic index and human development index. A global rise in HDP incidence from 16.30 million to 18.08 million was noted, with a total increase of 10.92 % from 1990 to 2019. A reduction in age-standardized incidence rate was seen, with an estimated annual percent change of -0.68. Declining death and incidence rates were observed in most countries and all regions except for those exhibiting low sociodemographic and human development indexes. This disparity was primarily because of the growing attention to prenatal examinations and health education. This work offers a comprehensive overview of the global burden of HDP.
