Epidemiological risk factors for adrenocortical carcinoma: A hospital-based case–control study
International Journal of Cancer Feb 09, 2020
Habra MA, Sukkari MA, Hasan A, et al. - In this hospital-based case–control inquiry undertaken at The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, researchers examined the link of adrenocortical carcinoma (ACC) risk with exposure to selected environmental factors, focusing on cigarette smoking. This analysis included 432 cases, defined as patients with ACC managed at MD Anderson, and 1,204 controls, defined as healthy and genetically unrelated spouses of patients at MD Anderson who had cancers not related to smoking. Among male cigarette smokers, but not among female smokers, a markedly increased risk of ACC was observed. An increased risk of ACC related to a family history of cancer was reported in both men and women, whereas, a decreased risk related to alcohol intake was evident in men but not women.
