The Journal of Dermatology Mar 29, 2020
Li J, Wang B, Deng Y, et al. - In this large population‐based case–control study, researchers determined the present epidemiological status of rosacea in China, involving 10,095 candidates aged 0–100 years (mean age, 35.5 ± 19.1; 50.5% female). Among 15 communities in Changsha in south central China, a census of rosacea was performed with skin examination by board‐certified dermatologists. Data reported that rosacea was observed in 3.48% of the study population. The authors discovered that subtype distribution was erythematotelangiectatic in 47.6%, papulopustular in 35.0% and phymatous in 17.4%. Family history was reported at 37.8% and ocular symptoms at 31.3%. Rosacea associations have been observed for melasma, hypertension, hyperthyroidism and breast cancer in females, as well as for hyperthyroidism and peptic ulcers in males. The findings provide baseline information on rosacea epidemiologic aspects in China.
