Epidemiological characteristics of and risk factors for breast cancer in the world
Breast Cancer: Targets and Therapy Apr 18, 2019
Momenimovahed Z, et al. - Researchers analyzed 142 scientific articles to determine the incidence and mortality rates of breast cancer, as well as factors that confer risk for breast cancer in the world. Eligible studies were published in English and addressed several aspects of breast cancer, including epidemiology and risk factors. A great variation was noted in the incidence rate of breast cancer by race and ethnicity. In developed countries, a higher incidence rate was reported. In less developed regions, a higher mortality rate of breast cancer was documented. Contributors to the incidence of breast cancer included several risk factors, such as demographic, reproductive, hormonal, hereditary, breast-related, and lifestyle. Overall, findings highlighted rising incidence and mortality rates of breast cancer that call for screening programs and the control of risk factors.
