Annals of Nutrition and Metabolism Jan 25, 2018

Calcaterra V, et al. - The authors performed this study to examine epicardial fat thickness (EFT) in neurologically impaired (NI) children. Its relationship with their metabolic profile was also evaluated. Compared with controls, higher EFT was observed in NI children. EFT values associated with clinical, metabolic, and endocrinological parameters. To promptly detect subclinical cardiovascular disease (CVD) and to prevent adverse outcomes in disabled children, ultrasound-measured EFT could be used.
