Eosinophil cell count in bronchoalveolar lavage fluid in early childhood wheezing: Is it predictive of future asthma?
Journal of Asthma Mar 01, 2019
Gut G, et al. - In this investigation, researchers studied the occurrence and yield of bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF) eosinophil cell count in preschool children with recurrent wheezing and its possible relationship to asthma diagnosis in the future. BALF was studied retrospectively in young wheezy children and assessed its relationship with asthma at the age of 6. Findings revealed that wheezing was not related to increased BALF eosinophils in preschool children. The diagnostic yield of BALF for the analysis of cell counts for the diagnosis of asthma is therefore limited at this age and is not routinely indicated.
