Environmental effects of ambient temperature and relative humidity on insulin pharmacodynamics in adults with type 1 diabetes mellitus
Diabetes, Obesity and Metabolism Feb 14, 2019
Al-Qaissi A, et al. - In adults with type 1 diabetes, researchers examined the impacts of ambient temperature and relative humidity on insulin pharmacodynamics. In adults with type 1 diabetes mellitus (n = 10), a three-way, cross-over, randomised study was performed. According to findings, high ambient temperature led to a higher insulin peak effect vs low ambient temperature, with the contribution of high relative humidity apparent only at high ambient temperature. This suggests that patients with type 1 diabetes mellitus who enter higher environmental temperatures with high humidity or without it may experience more hypoglycaemic events.
