Enterovirus infection during pregnancy is inversely associated with atopic disease in the offspring
Clinical & Experimental Allergy Sep 24, 2018
Korhonen L, et al. - In this nested case-control study within a prospective birth cohort study, researchers investigated the links between serologically confirmed maternal infections during pregnancy and atopic disease in the offspring. Participants included 202 atopic case children and 333 matched non-atopic control children. Having an atopic disease and IgE sensitization by the age of 5 years was accepted as the definition of atopic outcome. According to findings, there was an inverse association of maternal enterovirus infections during pregnancy with atopic disease in the offspring. No relation to atopic outcome of acute influenza virus A or Mycoplasma pneumoniae infections or seropositivity against cytomegalovirus or Helicobacter pylori was identified.
