Enhanced-view totally extraperitoneal (eTEP) approach for the treatment of abdominal wall hernias: Mid-term results
Surgical Endoscopy Feb 06, 2021
Quezada N, Grimoldi M, Besser N, et al. - Researchers performed a retrospective analysis of the case series of 66 patients with ventral hernias repaired by the enhanced view totally extraperitoneal (eTEP) approach with the aim to report on the mid-term result of these patients. Mean hernia defect size of 5.5 ± 2.9 cm was reported. In 43 patients, eTEP Rives-stoppa and in 23 patients, eTEP-Transversus abdominis release (14 unilateral, 9 bilateral), were performed. Findings suggest eTEP as a promising approach to manage midline hernias; this approach facilitates simultaneous treatment of lateral and inguinal defects, keeping the mesh in the retromuscular position.
