Endovascular treatment of acute ischemic stroke under general anesthesia: Predictors of good outcome
Journal of Neurosurgical Anesthesiology Jun 18, 2018
Athiraman U, et al. - Researchers investigated predictors of good discharge outcome in patients receiving general anesthesia (GA) for acute ischemic stroke (AIS) by reviewing electronic medical records of patients above 18 years old who underwent endovascular treatment of AIS under GA at a Comprehensive Stroke Center from 2010 to 2014. They noted ventilation management and extubation had importance after endovascular intervention under GA in patients with AIS. Higher maximum end-tidal carbon dioxide and extubation after endovascular treatment were identified as independent predictors of good discharge outcomes after adjusting for age and National Institute of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) score. Higher odds of good outcomes were reported in association with postprocedure extubation in logistic regression analysis controlling for age and NIHSS score.
